I've been messing with this thing for months off and on... I finally have it in game, guns included (34 turrets....) It needs a bit of work though:

  • Textures... I can make pics, edit them, but for the life of me, can't do shit with LW applying them lol.
  • Lighting. Running lights and stuff.
  • No Ginsu.

If someone who's good with texturing/ginsu wants to do it, that would be a HUGE help lol.

She's almost done, unfortunately I'm rather rusty with KA modding, so it's probably going to be awhile lol.

Lucky you. I wish I could get back into fiddling with KA modding. :(

On the sound issue, did you follow the readme.txt directions for snd2acm1.0b? You might have to do some sound sampling rate and bit conversion on your sounds before snd2acm1.0b can convert them to a usable KA format.

Sound File to Interplay ACM Converter v1.0 beta
(c) 2000-2001 ABel [TeamX]

NOTE: No up or down-sampling is provided.

Make sure input file is 22050Hz.


snd2acm.exe converts sound file to ACM.
compare.exe compares two sound files (RMSE is calculated).

Supported input formats:
RAW PCM 8 and 16 bits,
WAV PCM 8 and 16 bits,
Interplay ACM.

Command line info for snd2acm:

V:\Klingon Academy\KA Mod Tools\Sound Progs\snd2acm1.0b>snd2acm /?

Sound to ACM converter v1.0 beta (c) 2000-2001 ABel [TeamX]
Usage: snd2acm [-snd_type] snd_file_name acm_file_name [-q0 | -q percents]
snd_type can be used to specify the sound file format:
-8 8-bit raw PCM sound
-16 16-bit raw PCM file
-ACM ACM file
-WAV WAV file
Options:
-q percents limits the output file length by this percent of input
length, sould be between 1 and 100 (default is 50%).
-q0 unconstrained output file length.

sound sampling rate and bit conversion are good, it just doesn't play the sound in KA at all, it plays the default disruptor sound... it's very odd lol. It's linked in the weapons definitions properly, file is in the sounds directory... no idea why it won't play.

Well, looks like this is dead for the moment. Every time I try to apply textures, KA laughs, then crashes on me... This damn ship is so close from being done too lol.

Apparently the board doesn't like big images... a bit of clipping going on.

I'm as far as I'm going to get on her... Msg me if you want to do:
  • Textures. I have a bunch of good reference pictures... Just can't name all the surfaces properly and texture it.
  • Lighting. Running lights and stuff.
  • Ginsu.
Otherwise this project is dead lol.

Yeah, too much of the left side of the posting page is taken up by overly long date crap and needs to be changed.

Well, zip, rar, or 7zip the the whole thing, upload it to your online storage site of choice, and give me a link so I can see what's going on with the sound and "possibly" with the textures. I might not get on it until the weekend, but I'm curious as to what's causing problems sound-wise. Also, I'm not an expert with LW 5.6, but I'll see if I can figure out if the problem is texture naming convention or something else. No guarantees. ;)

Ok, the problem with the sound was that the wav file was 44 kHz with a lot of dead space and not 22 kHz.

So, I used Adobe Audition to convert the 44 kHz sound file to a 22 kHz sound file. Then, I used snd2acm1.0b to convert the 22 kHz wave file to an acm file with no output file length/size constraint. Afterwards, I created an IC2 installer for the Pegasus, put the ship reference in the QBSHIPS file, loaded it up in KA, and the weapon sounds are working.

Give it shot.

There is a Viper made by BenLurkin (Ron Hodge), if I remember correctly its one of the earliest KA mods released.

I'm glad you mentioned those mods because I hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Didn't someone make a pre-reboot BSG too? I thought I saw a BSG in the KA News a long time ago. If so, it might save DR more time or give him a template of sorts to use in order to texture his BSG build.

Update: Going through the news archives, I saw Minbari Captain was working on a BSG.
