Romulan Dawn Suggestions

Postby Romulan Dawn » Sat Dec 27, 2003 8:17 pm

The Romulan Dawn team wants to let you (the players) participate in the RD development process. At the current state of the project, changes are still possible. If you have any suggestions or wishes, please post here.

Thanks!

I really like the project - just a few little things I would really like:

*I really like RHCDs expanded self destruct mode - it is ACE!

*Fighters on ships are a must!

* Updated transporter sound

* I would like to see an updated hud voices - but I doubt that will happen because it takes far too much time

*Would it be possible to change the colour of the main menu to a green colour - at the moment it is too Klingon!

These are just very little things that I think will make the game a bit better :) It is already VERY cool!

Plus - if you need any QB2s making - I'm your man ;)

Thanks for your thoughts Admiral, I will submit them to the Development Team.

We are currently negotiating with a studio to produce all voice work for the game. At this point there is an inherent filter issue that we are working on to get the same clear vocal sounds that were in the original KA release.

You can hear the grainy-ness in the voice of the opening dialogue of the demo mission.

Although the current standard gives a nice 'static-type' feel to ship-to-ship messages, we are trying to clean it up.

The full conversion will most likely sport a modified Romulan themed interface, differing from the original releases Klingon interfaces however this is a secondary objective as our primary goal is to release a solid, well thought out set of missions, with a compelling storyline and captive gameplay.

If we run out of time (and money), we will, at the very least, release nothing short of an excellent mission pack based on the novel written by Don Burns.

Until then ...

Feel free to use the expanded Self-Destruct mode that Admiral Tyrell mentioned in his post. The logic is part of the Modified QB script and can be downloaded from my website which is linked in my sig. Source code is included with all my mission scripts.

I would also like to mention that Bobby Workmaster contributed a large portion of that self-destruct code which I further modified and added a few additional features.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

I Don't know if anyone noticed but they are already using RHCD's transporter sound. That's why I said before I think he is a part of this team:)

A romulan academy! A dream come true!

A rommie interface, as already pointed. NGA suffers from the same issue.

New VOS and crew voices would be cool, but a solid mission pack is much more important than this and the above.

The use of the best mods (ships, systems, weapon and explosion GFXs) avaliable.

But above all, as you devs said, a solid mission pack is the most essential thing.

That´s it!

dwyspock: Just because a particular Modder's work has been included doesn't necessarily mean that they're part of the Dev team.

Note that the full version of the teaser uses two of my own mods. It'd be cool if more of my existing stuff were to be included in the main release!

Tyrell: Did you read the novel? It's got fighters, so you'll probably get your wish...

Hmmm... perhaps a mission involving Saavik. Early drafts of STII had her as half-Romulan, and although little of this got into the movie FASA used that as her backstory... perhaps a cameo as a ship's captain, on a special covert mission...

Hmm....ain't read the short story, might have to ;)

On the issue of RHCD being on the team? It is a distinct possibility! I have been playing RHCD, Uwe's, Bobby's and everyone elses scripts since they started releasing the first missions. They all have a distinct style! The teaser mission in Romulan Dawn absolutely STINKS of RHCD - all the little things that make his scripts great are in there! I could be wrong! I hope there is a new scripter out there with the talents of the 3 gods of ka missions! I still think that work is RHCD!

If there are other scripters out there with such talent, I hope one day they can do some work on NGA.

Guys, speaking as a moderator we should probably be keeping on topic in a sticky, that being suggestions for the RD Dev team, rather than speculating on who they are.

Head on over to Why's Who Are The Developers? thread to continue this...

Not an attempt to hijack this thread, but I just wanted to make a clarification from a previous post.

The transporter sound does appear to sound like the same one that I use for my scripts. I would like to note however, I had originally converted this from the Starfleet Command II game into a KA format, as I liked it better than the stock version. I have also seen other KA scripters use this same transporter sound and I presume they either did the same thing I did, or just used a copy of the same transporter sound.

I am assuming that the RD team has done something similar. They probably either converted the same transporter sound to a KA format, or just borrowed one of the versions floating around for download out there.

Actual Mission Idea!

Postby Kt'Hyla » Thu Jan 15, 2004 6:43 pm

Don Burns' novel mentions the Romulan Flagship using fighters... I wonder if we could get a covert recon or courier mission where you have to pilot a fighter? Just a suggestion, of course... ;)

I have a few requests. One, I would like to be able to order escorts to hold position, to run away, to stay stealthy, to withdraw and repair.

I'd like more control over beaming stuff other then marines, and I'd like a hud where I can see the impulse slider better, and I'd like better explosions.

I'd like graphics upgrades to opinionally be retroactive to KA....

And I'd like a copy of "Babes of the Talshe'arr" added to the ships library.

The next set of missions won't have any escorts: You're pretty much dumped into trouble all on your own without backup! :D There will be controll options that can be mission specific, however those will be particulatr to the mission they're in, since they're script controlled.

There will be two missions where the transporter is used for something other than troops. We haven't changed the HUD too much so far, just a couple of tweaks, perhaps there might be more in the future. Better explosions would have to be an overwrite, although we've found a way to make a monster-sized kaboom for one of the missions using the stock graphics.

The graphic changes are kept seperate from your main install of KA to begin with. The RD Installer generates it's own exe and launch icon/screen, so you can load up either the RD game or your traditional KA setup independantly.

"Babes of the Tal'Shiar"? I'll have to look into that one, although we'd also have to put in "Hunks of the Tal'Shiar" in to appease our female fans. ;)
