Would anyone be intersested in a 1 file NGA exe installer.

Postby D-Smurf » Sun Jun 22, 2003 8:25 am

Greetings all, its been a long time since ive posted here. But I was wondering if anyone would want to host my NGA exe installer. I know installing NGA, especially for a novice computer user, can be quite confusing. I made an exe installer, but I dont have the webspace. Any help would be appeciated. Email me at

decomposingsmurf@hotmail.com with any info.

Hi there,

Well I would definately be interested in downloading it!!!
I don't think the files on fileplanet are working now, cos I can't download them anymore... All six I mean!!

Can anyone help out with another link?

Or if you have the .exe version all in one please someone host it.

Thanks

In response to your note about : " F-Planet NGA files nolonger downloading....I had the same problem. But after a few when tried both "general folk hehehe" Downloads, I found that the "west Coast section" was more consistant with being able to dwnload all "9" parts ( you said "6" LOL ).

Still having a hell of a time installing the "rar" files, so instead amwaiting for somebody to do an "Installzip" or Dwnload.exe" type of download for the NGA files. Besides playing all the "Mod missions/campaigns" from the original KA that I dwnloaded ( over 100 in all, incl. the 2 or3 campaingn sequels to the original mission set) is gonna take me awhile FOFL~~

BTW....does anybody know where I can dwnload the file "QB2" ??
Does this list all shiptypes up to the present modded, or can I just "rename" the QB.text" folder I made into "QB2"??

The problem with making a one-file NGA installer is that it's over 100 meg. Keeping it in pieces is better than all at once.

A one file exe is more convient for faster internet connections. They segmented NGA because many users especially outside of North America only have access to 56k

Yes it is over 100mb, its hard to compress that much data into a small chunk, but I have created 143mb executable. It is a self extracting 6 part multiple rar, 5- 25mb rars and 1-18.3mb rar with a SFV file for those of you who have quicksfv222. Its kind of like what you have already, but the first rar is an extractor. There is no need to compile all the data together. You dont even have to have winrar installed. Just double click on part 1 (the exe file) and follow the 2 step on screen instructions. It is pre patched and has 44 missions installed already. I did not include the NGA music to conserve on space, but with this setup there is only a .45mb difference between my version and the current installer.

Tell me what ya think.

3 hours from fileplanet, sounds like you need a new ISP. 143mb isnt that big concidering the size of the mods that come out these days. The new desert combat for BF1942 is 326mb, Day of Defeat for Half Life is 173.1mb and the list goes on...

My problem is that im looking for someone to host the files so everyone can download it. I would host it, but I have a serious cap on my upload thanks to my evil cable company

hey guys, sounds good, like it would help alot of people. Ill ask moogle and HA about his, maybe we can switch the d/ls or add that to them. Dont know if we'll be able to pull it off, like its been said, alot of the 56k'ers might prefer to keep it that way. but i will get on it.

have you thought about getting on a P2P network like Kazaa? It's just an idea but anyone else who had it could then connect to you directly as long as they knew the exact name of the file. I'm not sure if the cable company could or would try to cap your band with if you did it through that type of sharing medium. Just an idea.

The next NGA release will most likely be uploaded twice in both ways anyway.

There is no point in uploading NGA 1 again anyway - it will be obsolete very soon.

On a side note - why does everyone think it is confusing to install NGA - it doesn't exactly require the IQ of Mr Hawkins to open up some files, extract them and then move the files to a certain folder.

Holy cow, its been a long time since ive seen this thread. Thor try to reinstall it and make sure its in the correct directory. couldn't find/font text loader usually means its installed in the wrong directory.

Are you using 2 seperate installs? Use one directory for KA and another for NGA..
