Thank you Moogle! Yamato in da house for FS2!

Postby Star-Dragon » Sat Aug 07, 2004 12:57 am

With Moogle's kind permission let me give you a tease of the newest/old ship of the line. A Yamato class battleship was lost with all hands over 80 years ago.
Recently it and it's crew were found alive and well in the Delta quadrant and brought back to Federation space with full honors. Starfleet plans to revive the line as this "Ultimate Dreadnaught" of Kirk's era could greatly benefit from the weapons and armor upgrades secured by the USS Voyager...

Ok here's the REAL truth. After the "Gorkin Incident" some members of section 31 went underground. In this case suspended animation and a solid cover story
enables the villians to re-enter the Federation as heroes. Hopefully I can tie this in to a campaign wide multi-era S31 civil war as both immoral and moral fraction battle for control over the organization behind the scenes.

For now the ship will enter as is, but I hope to get some textue matching done
to make it fit in better with the majority of the ships to be used in game (like the models pictured with it). All the weapons ect are no prob and this is a VERY important ship cause by sacrificing the old shuttles it can carry new Federation fighters and small S31 covert craft.

Enjoy!

to clarify...

Postby Star-Dragon » Thu Nov 11, 2004 4:39 pm

That render was made OUTSIDE of game in 3d exploration... That's why the colors are off, it uses wierd lights that often make unusual colored reflections (even on daylight or hard lights). For some reason on every Trek fed ship it makes teh underneath of a suacer look 4 quadrated COLORS!??? anyway that was a symbolic pic to show it was going into the drydock (my hard drive) until I can arrange to seek out 1024 textures and glow/shine mapping. Plus My idea for a updated kitbash (as all tehothers I've seen, like 2, do not really excite me at all). I was thinking Sovy or Hecate nacels, Thicker reinforced paltes (definate ablative armor upgrade visible) and newer roll bars and possibly a sovy or prometheus saucer with sovy hulls?

End result would be 2 versions, the texture upgraded original and the newer section31 kitbash.

Damn! That's cool! I've never seen so much coming from FS2... I guess it wasn't a good thing to back off of it in 2002 after all. :) So where can I get all those other Trek ships in that pic? I have a few myself, considered reinstalling the game...
"Fate is in Heaven, the armor is on the breast, success is with the legs. Go to the battlefield firmly confident of victory, and you will come home with no wounds whatever. Engage in combat fully determined to die and you will be alive; wish to survive in the battle and you will surely meet death. When you leave the house determined not to see it again you will come home safely; when you have any thought of returning you will not return. You may not be in the wrong to think that the world is always subject to change, but the warrior must not entertain this way of thinking, for his fate is always determined." -- Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578)

Bottom ship

Postby Star-Dragon » Mon Nov 15, 2004 1:34 pm

It's the USS Scorpion (A custom ship, come in two texture sets). I found out a little while ago that is was an origonaldesign so as much as I want to include it in a mod I have to get permission first (it is featured on Raven's site Nightsoft) I didn't know last year when I got it as it was in a pack of ships already converted with no credits... (bummer) I also need to find ATOLM for his Enterprise-F (another origonal design). Since the files are still in the testing phase it's alright to experiment, BUT when I get around to finalizing a proper folder JUST for TREK (as the old one is too mixed with Robotech and Wars ) I will only be listing the ones that come from STOCK models or ones greenlighted by the creators.

It really is an awesome design though. I was about to test out a new shield mesh that is like 3 times more detailed than the old one to see if it can handle it. Check out the MSD (Master Systems Display diagram) sometime, it's sweet!

Had lots of trouble when I switched from retail FS2 to SCP 3.6 (the only version I can successfully run)..

The advances of HT&L glow mapping and shinemaps and higher poly limits comes at a heavy price, max of 16 textures per model. Thus, many of the conversions I made from KA authors (like Moogle and Kt'Hyla) that I tracked down years ago have to be reworked. In fact it's damn near impossible to do justice to most of these works.

I am posting this disclaimer instead of individually emailing every author I had contacted here to express my regret that I cannot use the conversions I previously made and that the new ones will be lacking in visual quality to some extent (depending on how many textures it has over 16. the less I have to trim off the less it will suffer).

Please note that if any author is offended by this, or wants me to not attempt it for the meshes I previously requested the use of, I will comply with their wishes.

Now that I solved the mystery of why all these wonderful models were suddenly crashing the mod, I started correcting that.

Kt'Hyla's Romulan Nightwind Shuttle (used as a VIP transport that can "handle itself")
I had to trim 4 textures off it by using duplication of an exusting one. My goal for each attempt is to maintain as much visual quality and beauty as possible.

I hope he approves.

I don't think he'll mind, the ship still looks good to me.

Okay, maybe I'm getting old or something, but what is FS2 again?! lol. Thanks :)

I am sorry Moogle....

One of the ships I will be replacing is your Yamato. (but fear not, there are plenty of yours still unchallenged!!!)

This is a bash I did of Antivyrus's Yamato engineering hull and Rick Knox's Overload saucer. I think the end result came out fine.

What do you guys think? It weights in now at around 6100 polys. (that's why I asked in another thread about KA poly limits, could this fit in?)
I have the ambient lighting kinda low on purpose.

I'm surprised BTRL multi-play hasn't hooked you yet? I play rarely cause I'm a easy kill :)
I hope to transport their type of multi-play coding in the FAR future cause it's stable...
Would still need a server though or have people do direct lan games at set ip locales at certain times set up over messengers.

http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=36

It's not JUST a BTRL board, but they ended up dominating us!!!!!

Hey people!

Long ago I was always intrigued by the design of the Romulan War Eagle. It has been stuck in the back of my mind for years and I was curious how a modern look to the design would go so I bashed Thu11's Killer/Firehawk model and posted a pic of the concept.

Models please took the same model and followed my lead and cleaned the mesh up and posted it. He also intends to release a more reasonable variant (4 less nacels).

Anyway this is it, the Romulan answer to the Yamato!
I present to you War Eagle MKII - I hope you folks like it!
